Checking a car before a vehicle inspection in Novi Sad

Registration and vehicle inspection

Vehicle inspection: what you can check before you come

Ten minutes around the car can reveal a blown bulb, a damaged tire or missing equipment before you set off for the inspection.

In short

Before the vehicle inspection, check all lights, the wipers and washers, tire condition and pressure, seat belts, mirrors, license plates and mandatory equipment. If you notice a leak, a warning light or a change in braking or steering, book a professional check of the vehicle first.

Start with what you can see and switch on

The most useful check at home is not complicated. Park the vehicle somewhere safe and switch on the low and high beams, position lights, turn signals, hazard lights, brake lights and license plate light. For the brake lights you need a second person or a reflection in a window. Also test the horn, the wipers and the windshield washers.

See whether the mirrors are intact and stable, whether the plates are secure and legible, and whether all seat belts pull out and buckle. These small things often get put off because the car can still be driven, but they are part of using it safely and legally.

  • all exterior lights and signals
  • wipers, washers and visibility through the glass
  • seat belts, mirrors and doors
  • plates and mandatory equipment

Look at more than tread depth

Check that the tire pressure is close to what the manufacturer specifies for your vehicle. The value is usually on a sticker in the door frame, on the fuel flap or in the owner's manual. Look at the sidewalls: a bulge, a cut, visible cords or a larger crack are not cosmetic problems.

Unevenly worn tread can point to incorrect pressure or a problem with the alignment, suspension or steering. If the car pulls to one side or the steering wheel shakes, it makes sense to find the fault before the inspection itself.

Symptoms that come before the appointment

Weaker braking, a sinking pedal, instability, a strong smell of fuel, smoke, leaks or a red warning light are not items for a pre-trip checklist. In those situations, first find out whether the vehicle is safe to move and call a service center.

A vehicle inspection does not replace fault diagnosis. Its role is to check roadworthiness within a prescribed procedure, while a service center establishes the cause of a symptom and how to repair it.

Check your documents before you get in the car

The list is not the same for a regular renewal, a change of owner, a change of details, temporary plates or an imported vehicle. That is why it is better to say exactly what you are dealing with when you call, instead of only asking what you need for registration.

AC Bugarski can confirm what you need to prepare for your specific procedure and record your preferred appointment. Always confirm appointment availability and details that may change with the administration office.

Three things to remember

  1. 01

Walk around the car while someone else operates the lights and turn signals.

  2. 02

Do not try to hide a warning light or a symptom that may affect safety.

  3. 03

Confirm documents and current requirements before you leave, especially if this is not a simple registration renewal.

Straight answers

Does checking the car beforehand guarantee it will pass the inspection?

No. A check at home helps you spot obvious defects, but it cannot replace the measurements and the prescribed inspection on the line.

What if a warning light is on?

Note which light is on and when it appeared. Red warnings and changes in how the vehicle behaves need more urgent assessment, while the cause of other lights is found through diagnostics and inspection.

Can I come without an appointment?

Availability depends on the current schedule, so it is best to call the administration office before you come and confirm a time.
